What Guys Actually Want for Valentine’s Day

34 Comments 2 min read

We have all been there, asking ourselves, “What do I get my babe for Valentine’s Day?”
This can be especially hard if you are just beginning dating someone.
So, I went ahead and asked all the men in my life what they would like from a girl (or woman) for Valentine’s. I even went ahead and asked them what they would like if they had just begun dating a girl!

If you had been dating two weeks to a month:
“I wouldn’t think it was weird if she got me something small.”
If you had been dating exclusively for at least two months:
“I am all about gift cards!”
[Porter, age 16]

If you had been dating two weeks to a month:
“Probably just a letter, and my favorite candy or something.”
If you had been dating exclusively for at least two months:
“A card and a dinner date, or something.”
[Hunter, age 18]

If you had been dating two weeks to a month:
“I wouldn’t expect anything from her, but I would love anything that she got for me. I would definitely get something for her, maybe just flowers. I definitely wouldn’t spend over $30 on her though!”
If you had been dating exclusively for at least two months:
“Maybe a watch, or some shoes. Or, some new shirts!”
[Spencer, age 24]

If you had been dating two weeks to a month:
“I would want mint truffles.”
If you had been dating exclusively for at least two months:
“A nice steak dinner, and a back-scratch.”
[Michael, age 50]

Style Note: If you haven’t checked out MAUDE yet, you NEED to this second. They just feel my style and fill their store with it. The name is chic, their clothes are fab, and the quality of both clothing and their PR is above and beyond the norm. Don’t lose out on this one.
Prismera Design Carries high quality rings, earrings, necklaces, and cuffs without breaking the bank. Even better is that you can see the true detail shine through in each piece. You can tell that everything is an original design and will not be found anywhere else.

I've been married for 19 years and he usually doesn't get anything from me. Maybe he'd like something.

No way! He needs to get you something! Try getting hime something this year. You just must not show your love language through gifts;)

The hair, that skirt!! And yes, Valentine's can be a minefield, but for me the most precious things are letters and photographs, anything meaningful, however small. Thanks so much for linking to #AllAboutYou

I think this is a really cute post? But what about all the married folks?

    • lauryncakes
      February 12, 2015

Hey! The last two guys are married! Spencer is my husband and Michael is my dad. Spence has been married for a year, my dad for 25. Also, that is why I wrote seriously dating for over 6 months. When you are married you should definitely still be "dating" each other. The courtship should never end! Don't worry, I didn't forget about the married folks, I am married myself!

Love the skirt! I never know what to get my husband. But this year he lost his wedding ring- so guess what he's getting? 🙂

I wish I could post a tutorial, but I am iffy. Sometimes my braids work out and other times they don't! Try looking up Missy Sue Dutch Braid Crown on Youtube!

What I took away from the teenage boys' answers is that you should get them "something." Sorry — I LOLed at the "or something" responses :). Teenagers, amirite?

      February 12, 2015

You are SO RIGHT! (also love that you wrote amirite– I say that all the time). It was my brother and his best friend and they were like, "I don't know, and something." I basically had to coax the responses out of them. We both know that they love when girls give them gifts though. They just have to pretend they don't.

Your style is very unique, I love all the metallics here! And interesting to hear what men want for Valentine's Day, I just asked my partner of 7 years what he wants and he said "loveliness". x

I love the section about what men want to Valentine's day. When I ask my husband he just says "nothing." So, I got him chocolate because he loves chocolate! Lovely outfit too. You just look beautiful in anything.
